Share your American Dream Story

The beauty of America is that we are a nation of immigrants. Whether first or fifth generation we have similar stories of how our families came to the United States in search of the American Dream. President Ronald Reagan said, “America represents something universal in the human spirit. I received a letter not long ago from a man who said, ‘You can go to Japan to live, but you cannot become Japanese. You can go to France to live and not become a Frenchman. You can go to live in Germany or Turkey, and you won’t become a German or a Turk.’ But then he added, ‘Anybody from any corner of the world can come to America to live and become an American.”

That statement is what makes our country unique. At HLN we want to celebrate your stories of the American Dream. My own grandfather and grandmother were very poor and had little education. But they worked hard and dreamed of moving to the U.S. Their perseverance and work paid off as they trekked from Mexico to San Diego with the family, working odd jobs along the way. It took many years, but my grandfather was sponsored to work in the U.S. and then was able to bring the family to the land of opportunity. They worked at different jobs, making shoes, wetsuits, you name it. They lived modestly but were employed, had a roof over their head, and were able to give their children something they didn’t have the opportunity to have — an education. Many of you have special stories, too —share your American Dream stories with us…
